How I unified siloed product teams with a typography system
Meaning is baked into styles
Designers didn’t want to think when selecting a type style. Often they’re are stressed with getting features out the door to meet aggressive milestones. Designers need to trust the style they used met their needs without diving into lengthy documentation.
Type styles should be intuitive and understood quickly.

Dynamic type handled via Native iOS and Android
The rate that type scales is similar to how a car accelerates when you step on the gas pedal. Smaller text sizes scale faster than larger text sizes.
I collaborated with developers to capture dynamic type definitions that mapped gracefully to native definitions while supporting our designed type scales.
A unified vision and approach for how type scales eliminated the variation that occurred when designers were asked to provide examples of scale.
Reliability balanced with expression
Working with multiple brands with different typefaces could lead to a lack of support in accessibility and language support. It’s a balancing act between ensuring we’re making the best impact with brand while ensuring content is readable, legible and functional.
To achieve this, we work with the brand and when we do they do feel it’s important to utilize their typeface, we scope the use for display and page level headings, while leaving and flowing content in tighter spaces defined as native typefaces.
